In the past, the most popular LED type was the B22 LED. The “B” in B22 LED stands for “Bayonet”, which is the type of mount it uses to connect the bulb to the electric source. B22 LED lamps have two prongs which get pushed down into the base and then twisted. Now, the B22 LED lamps have been largely overtaken in popularity by the “E” type LED lamps – the E standing for “Edison.” These are the standard, screw-type bulb fittings that we are used to with incandescent bulbs. The great thing about Edison LED lamps is that you can put them in your existing lighting without any conversion.

Before you buy an LED, you will have to make sure that you know which type of base it is using. If you are just switching out your regular incandescent bulbs to LED lamps, then you will most likely be using the “E” LED lamps. But, a lot of lighting still uses the Bayonet mount. The good news is that you can easily and cheaply buy convertors which will turn a bayonet or Edison type mount into another type, such as a B22 LED to E27 lamp convertor.
